Three of the Republican candidates at a recent debate (the 14th or 15th, I think...these debates are like the latest "reality show," sheer low brow entertainment) were asked what they would be doing that night if they were not running for president. Trying to sound like "reglar fellas" they each said that they'd be watching "the championship football game." The problem was that there was no championship football game on that night, which is why they didn't bother naming the teams and just left it generic, "the championship football game." Once one of them said it, two others just followed suit, one of them exclaiming, "Football! I love it!"
In a debate the very next morning (these things come fast, and you miss them if you blink), Mitt Romney claimed that he had not seen the negative attack adds, funded by a super PAC that supports him and is run by his former campaign staffers, against Newt Gingrich. Seconds later he defended the actual content, in clear detail, of one of the adds.
Then there was Newt Gingrich waxing on about the sanctity of marriage. Yes, that's right "Johnny three-wives," as Jon Stewart dubbed him, going on about the gay threat to an institution that he keeps soiling.
But ya gotta luv the Newt. He's so blissfully unaware of his own hypocrisy that he's a loose cannon, a bull running a muck in the Republican China shop. Having once responded to calls for campaign finance reform by saying that there should be more money in politics, not less, he recently screamed about having been beat in Iowa by Romney's big money Super PAC.
But that's not the worst of it - or the best, depending on your perspective - He now is calling out Romney for destroying jobs and companies through investment manipulations of the private equity firm that he used to run. While two other Republican candidates have piled on with this criticism, others are distancing themselves from it, and the whole capitalist establishment has been caught off guard and is trying to figure out how to silence this guy. Doesn't he know that this sort of thing is the big dark secret about capitalism!? The story of Bain, Romney's former private equity firm, is the story of capitalism. That's how it works!! It doesn't create jobs, it destroys them!!
So here's to the Newt and his blissful, almost heavenly, blindness to his own contradictory positions. May they roll on like a river and a never ending stream, revealing the insanity and lies of "free" market ideology!!
